Winter Adventures For Every RV Enthusiast

Your RV travels may be done for the season, but that doesn’t mean the adventure has to end. Canada is especially beautiful in the winter and there is no shortage of things to do that let you get out and explore even during the coldest months.

Here are a few magnificent places to visit and things to do this winter to keep that roaming spirit alive!

For The Adventurous

Ski or Snowboard

For those that thrive on adventure, Searchmont Resort doesn’t just have some of the best skiing in Ontario, it also boasts the highest verticals too! With a height of 703 feet, 26 runs, and 100 acres of mountain to explore, you could hit the slopes all season long and still not see it all. Once you’re done shooting through powder, hit up the resort restaurant or bar for an après ski drink.

Ice Climbing Adventure

Yes, you heard that right. Grab your crampons, your warmest layers, and a handful of friends for a day spent ice climbing with climbing expert Steve Foster. This super unique and fun experience is sure to excite even the biggest adrenaline junkie in your family.

Not one who wants to climb the ice? Lake Superior is home to another surreal adventure – ice cave exploration. These breathtaking structures are even more beautiful in person and absolutely worth the trek. With more than one company offering guided day trips, you have your pick of the very best local guides to experience this seasonal wonder.

A Little Less Adrenaline

Fat Bikes

For those looking for adventure without the adrenaline, fat biking is a great way to get out and enjoy the snow at your own pace. You can choose trails that are more challenging and include elevation; we highly suggest Hiawatha Highlands for more exciting trails and family friendly ones too (plus they offer snowshoeing and cross-country ski rentals), or spend the day cruising the picturesque trails at Crimson Ridge.

Cross-Country Skiing

Love fresh powder but not the rush of downhill skiing, cross-country skiing is the perfect alternative and Sault Ste. Marie has some of the best trails in North America. Check out Stokely Creek Lodge where you can cross-country ski across frozen lakes, forests that go on for days, and even view waterfalls along the way. This experience is a must for all outdoor enthusiasts.

Family Fun

Ice Skating

Grab your skates and hot chocolate and hit the town. Sault Ste. Marie has a plethora of skating rinks to choose from for an afternoon of family fun. For an especially magical skating day check out the Crimson Ridge trail that winds through the forest. You won’t be disappointed.

Stargazing

Lake Superior Provincial Park is known for being one of the best places on earth to view the night sky. Walk or snowshoe in and catch a glimpse of the breathtaking display above. Watch the stars twinkle and shine, and if you’re lucky, you might just catch the colours of Aurora Borealis as they dance across the sky.

After a day of outdoor winter activities, relax and unwind at any one of the many restaurants Sault Ste. Marie has to offer, and remember – just because your RV is parked for the winter, doesn’t mean the adventure has to stop there. So lace up, layer up, and gear up for a winter filled with excitement.
