Winter is coming “what’s the best way to winterize my office trailer?” Taking these vital steps will ensure that you keep your trailer running at maximum efficiency all year round, you’ll also significantly reduce the chances of winter weather-related damage racking up enormous repair bills. So, with that in mind, we wanted to share with you some top tips for preparing your construction trailers and mobile offices for the cold winter months.
Keep Your Roof Safe
An accumulation of snow and ice on the roof can cause serious structural damage, not only that but if it happens to break off and fall on a customer or employee, you could find yourself in serious legal trouble! That’s why we recommend the use of a roof rake, especially close to entrances and windows, in order to clear snow off those areas. To prevent the build-up of snow in the first place, you can place some deicing pucks around the roof, too!
Prevent Drafts
In order to keep the warm air in, and cold air out, we suggest skirting in your mobile office during the winter months. To do this, we typically recommend the application of a foam backing to pressure treated plywood, and then fastening this around the base of the unit; if snow builds up around the skirting, we actually suggest that you don’t remove it! This actually increases the effectiveness of the insulation provided by the foam and plywood.
Protect Your Pipes
If your mobile office trailer or construction trailer happens to have plumbed facilities (toilets, sinks, etc.) then you are going to want to ensure that if it is going to be left unoccupied for any length of time, even just overnight, make sure all water is drained. Frozen water in pipes and tanks can cause ruptures, and this is likely to end in a significant repair bill, as well as office downtime as you wait for repairs!
Apply Lots of Rock Salt
Of course, if you’re going to have customers, clients or employees coming in and out of your mobile office, construction trailer or office unit, you’re going to want to ensure that the entrance is properly salted to prevent slips trips and falls. Apply it to stairs, ramps, and walkways to keep your entrance safe.
Keep the Heat on
When you leave for the night, we suggest leaving the heating on; by simply turning it down rather than turning it off, you’re going to reduce the chances of freezing temperatures causing damage to the trailer. This tip has the added benefit of speeding up the time taken to warm up the trailer in the morning when you arrive, too!
